Foundational Series

This initial series of three seminars provides the foundation for building a healthier Brain-Mind-Body System (BMBS™) and an introduction to the science and art of well-being. It should precede any of our specialized-topic seminars.

Choose your focus

The following will become available after completing the Foundational Seminars I-IV collection. Each provides a deeper look at topics introduced in the previous seminars and discusses how the techniques assist in these areas of functioning and how to use them most effectively.

This seminar is a valuable follow-on to the Foundational Seminars collection, in which we introduce, discuss, and compare the science and benefits underlying various breathing techniques. We review breathing techniques introduced during the Foundational Seminars and others that are part of meditation practices, yoga, relaxation approaches, and for enhanced performance in populations such as the military and competitive sports. We examine how they affect the BMBS™ and then guide you in performing them. We offer suggestions on which technique to use in various situations and for different needs.


This seminar discusses a serious health issue: inflammation. Chronic inflammation typically comes from unresolved, chronic (negative) stress and either leads to--or exacerbates--most diseases of the brain and body. We explore the connection between chronic stress, cortisol, and the resulting inflammation. As with all seminars following the Foundational collection, we build on the Foundational knowledge and practice of the techniques and explore your motivation and goals to make positive change for your well-being and performance.


Now that you have explored why many of us end up with chronically high inflammation and how harmful that can be, we dive into ways to not just manage it, but reduce it. This includes a discussion of the very important gut, functional nutrition, the role of the techniques in reducing inflammation, why regular movement is important, and the absolute criticality of good sleep. Subsequent seminars delve further into all of these topics. 


In this seminar, we explore social engagement as an important part of wellbeing. We touch on communication, emotion regulation, goal clarity/honesty, instant gratification, maintaining connection, and how it relates to values & and goals. We introduce approaches that enhance our social engagement, such as cultural intelligence, social intelligence, emotional intelligence, relationship intelligence and briefly discuss tools and assessments in these areas.


In this seminar, we will work to dispel the belief of many that happiness is no longer achievable because we have crossed over the statistical midway point of our lives.  Rather than view this half-century of our life on Earth as a highwater mark, we will discuss and explore to ensure subsequent years are fun-filled, adventurous, and most importantly, more productive than the preceding 50 and to continue experiencing tremendous change, growth, and evolution.  Thus, our Second 50 will be more enlightened and far better than the first.  Together, we will be engaged and seek to realize our boundless capacity.
